A Welcoming Church

Warrenton | Sam Byers

August 16, 2026

Romans 15:7

“Therefore welcome one another as Christ has welcomed you, for the glory of God.”

A welcoming church is one that takes its cue from Jesus.

How Does Jesus Welcome Sinners?

1. Jesus ________ to us.

1 Timothy 1:15
“Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners”

Luke 19:10
"For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost."

Jesus comes to us because otherwise we ________ and we ________ come to him.

2. Jesus __________ us.

John 6:37
"All that the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never cast out."

No one who comes to Jesus will ever be __________ away.

Just as I am, thou wilt receive,
wilt welcome, pardon, cleanse, relieve;
because thy promise I believe,
O Lamb of God, I come, I come.

3. Jesus ___________ us.

Mark 10:45
“For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

a) Jesus served us by ___________ man.

b) Jesus served us by ___________ a perfectly righteous life.

c) Jesus served us by ___________ in our place as a substitute.

John Stott:
“the essence of sin is man substituting himself for God, while the essence of salvation is God substituting himself for man. Man… puts himself where only God deserves to be; God sacrifices himself for man and puts himself where only man deserves to be.”

4. Jesus ___________ us.

Romans 12:5
“so we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another.”

“Just me and Jesus” isn’t what Jesus _________ for any of his disciples

______________ us to others who are also in Christ is part of Jesus’ out of this world plan for making all things new.
